Jamal's hilarious Taj Mahal tour | Slumdog Millionaire

SBS On Demand has shared a Slumdog Millionaire scene in which two hurried tourists pay young Jamal for a private tour. They get an explanation for everything, though a guidebook would struggle to recognize any of it.

In Jamal's telling, the Taj Mahal was conceived as a luxury hotel. The rooms and elevators never materialized, but the reflecting pool? That becomes a swimming pool, completed right on schedule. When one tourist points out that the guidebook says nothing of the sort, Jamal dismisses the book rather than reconsidering his account.

This is a fictional scene from Danny Boyle's 2008 film, with the comedy resting on the young guide's absolute confidence as the questions get harder. The Short drew an estimated 36,000 views in its first day, far beyond the channel's usual start for that format.

SBS On Demand has also posted "Slumdog Millionaire: The 10 million rupee question," returning to the quiz-show stakes at the heart of the film. Here, away from the contestant's chair, Jamal gets to supply his own answers.
