Elrond puts the problem plainly: "The enemy has twice our number." Sauron sounds far less worried. "We have work to do," he says, and a little later: "Let the hunt begin."
The new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power runs a little over two minutes and covers a lot of Middle-earth in that time. Armored horsemen attack riders in an elven forest. Dwarven royalty turn a spiked crown over in their hands. A wizard with a staff faces down a dust storm and an elemental beast. Armies collide among the trees and out on the water, and Gil-galad gets the line most likely to be repeated: "I came to slay a god."
Prime Video's description is unusually direct about what season three holds. Sauron takes on his armored form, Gandalf becomes the wizard readers know, and Galadriel moves closer to being the Lady of Lothlórien. The promise in bold is the forging of the One Ring, shown on screen for the first time. The trailer saves it for its final seconds, when a figure raises a glowing ring over a sea of magma, just after title cards spell out "RULE THEM ALL" one word at a time.
Nearly half a million people watched it within 12 hours, and the comment section was far busier than the channel's short uploads usually manage. Many viewers point out that the armies and cities finally look big. Some are already planning the rest of the series: Sauron captured and carried off to Númenor, which is where Tolkien's own history eventually takes him. A sizable group spares its energy for something smaller, the Prime Video music sting that plays after the trailer ends.
The Hellaverse had a busy night of its own on the same channel. A Helluva Boss scene in which Stolas and Blitzø finally confront the hurt between them made a fast start too, a reminder that the channel's most watched uploads remain Hazbin Hotel sing-alongs rather than anything set in Middle-earth.
