Jeffrey Epstein's estate and trust still hold more than $100 million, according to New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez. At a news conference carried by C-SPAN, he set out who he believes should receive it: "If anyone is entitled to a recovery of Jeffrey Epstein's estate, it's the survivors."

Torrez announces a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in the District of New Mexico against the estate's two co-executors, the men C-SPAN's title describes as Epstein's attorney and accountant. He says the case relies on federal and state racketeering laws and on statutes protecting trafficking victims. In his view, it would be unconscionable for people who assisted Epstein's enterprise to profit from what he left behind.

The word "charges" in the title needs some context. What Torrez announces here is a civil suit, not a criminal case. He also places it alongside a separate effort. In February, his office reopened its criminal investigation into Epstein's operations at Zorro Ranch, the New Mexico property. Torrez says that investigation remains active and that his office is still pursuing full access to the unredacted Epstein files.

The clip passed a quarter-million views within ten hours, far beyond the usual first day for one of C-SPAN's regular uploads. The comment section moved even faster than the views. Within those hours it filled with more than a thousand comments, where a typical C-SPAN video collects only a handful on its first day. Many of them focus on state-level action and on whether others connected to Epstein will face it as well.

Near the end of his remarks, Torrez returns to the point he made at the start: "Those resources rightfully belong in the hands of survivors."
