Julia Stiles pays tribute to Heath Ledger on DWTS
Twenty-seven years after Heath Ledger sang "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" to her from the school stadium bleachers in 10 Things I Hate About You, Julia Stiles danced to it on the Dancing with the Stars ballroom floor.
It was dedication night, and Stiles and her partner, Ezra Sosa, chose Ledger. Etalk's Short, cut from the show's footage and the film, runs their routine beside split-screen clips of that serenade, so the 1999 scene and the 2026 dance play side by side. The tempo lifts, then slows, and Stiles walks toward a screen showing Kat Stratford's poem, her own voice from the film reaching its famous last line: "But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you."
Then the cast arrives. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Larisa Oleynik are among the co-stars who join hands with her on stage, and she embraces them as the studio applauds.
This is the second week running that Stiles's season has gone back to her early films. Last week it was her Save the Last Dance audition, with Sean Patrick Thomas watching, as we reported here. This time the co-star could not be there, and the ones who could came out for him.
The clip passed 96,000 views in 13 hours, while an Etalk Short usually gathers under 5,000 in its whole first day. The same night produced another tribute: Tatyana Ali's Viennese waltz with Jan Ravnik for her Fresh Prince of Bel-Air screen father, James Avery, sung in part by Ali herself and joined halfway by Alfonso Ribeiro. Its clip also ran well ahead of the channel's usual start, though the Stiles dance drew roughly three times as many views.
The comment section moved much faster than usual too. Viewers keep coming back to the moment the cast walks on, and several spot a head nuzzle borrowed from the film's paint scene. Others remember seeing 10 Things in theaters, talk about the late-'90s teen films they grew up with, and say they are going back to watch it again tonight.

@tamraI3See it on YouTubeYou know what's crazy. Growing up in the 90s when a lot of us did. We were so blessed to see so many people who were very talented at their craft. In a lot of genres. 90s is definitely a moment in time that will never be forgotten.

10 Things I Hate About You is a modern take on which Shakespeare play?
The film moves Shakespeare's story of the sharp-tongued Katherina and her suitor to a 1990s high school, with Kat Stratford and Patrick Verona in those roles.
