Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa’s Dedication Night Contemporary | Dancing with the Stars
The dancing finishes before the most personal part begins. Julia Stiles turns toward a screen playing her poem recital from 10 Things I Hate About You, then crosses the ballroom to stand with the people who helped make the film.
Larisa Oleynik, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Susan May Pratt are among the former castmates gathered on the floor. They put their arms around one another as the memorial tribute plays behind them.
For Dedication Night, Stiles and professional partner Ezra Sosa perform a contemporary to a live cover of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," the song Heath Ledger serenades her with in the movie. The choreography moves from sweeping lifts into synchronized turns and jumps, before slowing for the finish and the return to Stiles's screen performance.
The official Dancing With The Stars upload drew nearly 590,000 views in its first 23 hours, far beyond the channel's usual start for a clip this length. Comments arrived about eleven times faster than on a typical first day. Viewers point to steps that recall Ledger's movie performance, the familiar prom-dress styling and the cast gathering at the end.
Dedication Night also gave Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas an unusually strong start with their paso doble to Dropkick Murphys' "I'm Shipping Up To Boston." Stiles's clip, though, brings something beyond a new interpretation of a familiar song: her younger screen self and her former castmates share the final moments of the ballroom performance.

Massive respect for Ezra when he cued Julia ahead of time with the tap on his leg and she came in half a beat too early with the kicks, and he instantly threw in a quick leg change and kept everything going smoothly and gave her a reassuring look. What a great pro.
