Even fleeing the Major, Hyacinth insists it's "Bouquet"
BBC Comedy Greats' fast-moving Keeping Up Appearances clip finds Hyacinth defending her dignity during a decidedly unwelcome countryside stop.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 132,762 views a day, 15 times a normal first day on this channel (8,626).
Mrs Bucket and Major go for a drive...
BBC Comedy Greats has shared a car ride that Hyacinth Bucket quickly regrets requesting. She struggles to settle gracefully into the Major's open-top sports car, then asks him to take her away. He proves rather too eager to oblige.
The Keeping Up Appearances excerpt, titled "Mrs Bucket and Major go for a drive...", reached around 87,000 views in eleven hours, already far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for a Short.
Once the Major parks beside a horse pasture, the outing becomes an escape attempt. He hugs and kisses Hyacinth despite her protests; she tries to divert his attention with a bird sighting and an appeal to her social standing. "Unhand me. I'm a member of the Choral Society," she tells him. Even in this predicament, Hyacinth reaches for her credentials.
Her eventual retreat doesn't stop her correcting his pronunciation of Bucket. That small insistence is a focus of the comments: viewers joke that getting her surname wrong might be the Major's greatest offense. Others bring up Sheridan, imagining how little help her cherished son would be.
The scene joins a fresh hour-long collection from the sitcom's early series on BBC Comedy Greats. Hyacinth is also a familiar presence among the channel's most-watched Shorts, where her interrogation of the postman has already drawn millions of views.
