Every player a bishop: Rimmy's Crusader Kings III: By God Alone schism

The Australian strategy creator's only upload of the week runs from character selection to a chapter called The Great Schism, and drew close to 97,000 views on its first day.

What if we were all Bishops in Crusader Kings III: By God AloneWhat if we were all Bishops in Crusader Kings III: By God Alone

Rimmy Downunder spent the week in church, or at least in the medieval version of it that Crusader Kings III builds in its By God Alone update. The premise of "What if we were all Bishops in Crusader Kings III: By God Alone" is right there in the title: every player in the multiplayer session takes a seat in the clergy rather than on a throne, and the chapters trace where that leads, from "A Fragile Unity" through a crusade, a reform, the Saeculum Obscurum (the name historians gave the papacy's darkest stretch in the 10th century) and finally "The Great Schism."

The description explains the delay: some approval confusion behind the scenes held it back. It also contains a rave about how smoothly the game ran, with a single desync across a long session, a pointed contrast with the trouble he had with the earlier China content. What he liked most is the puppet system, which lets clergy pull strings on the feudal lords.

The comments read like a church council gone wrong. Viewers joke that the group out-schismed the original schism, quote a line about not needing a second set of St Peter's keys, and recoil from a council vote on gruesome festivals. Others play history teacher, pointing out that the Cologne cathedral on screen would not be started for centuries, and explaining what a Germanic kobold really was.

It was the only upload, and it pushed the channel's daily views well above the usual, at roughly 64,000 a day, while the subscriber count held at 585,000. Among strategy and simulation channels of similar size, PragMagik and MadSeasonShow drew the biggest crowds, and MadSeasonShow added the most subscribers. Behind the new video, a Sins of a Solar Empire II: Harbinger match and a Bannerlord co-op run from the summer are still finding viewers.
