My brother joined the Marines just to outrank me at Thanksgiving...
Reddit Report runs on a simple formula: a narrated Reddit post or AskReddit thread, cut into a short and posted several times a week. The about page says one person makes every video. A new short here usually ends its first day around 100,000 views. "My brother joined the Marines just to outrank me at Thanksgiving..." went past half a million in the same stretch, and it has kept climbing since.
The premise is all in the title: a family dinner turned into a contest of stripes. That premise is exactly what viewers wanted to argue about. The comments came in about four times faster than on a usual first day, and they read like a briefing room. The most liked one, from a viewer who speaks as someone who went through boot camp, says no recruit comes out without knowing their own rank. An Air Force veteran makes the same point. Others answer that the plan is not as far-fetched as it sounds, and they list the real routes from the enlisted ranks into the officer corps: officer candidate school, warrant officer school, the Army's Green to Gold program. Several also say the story ends more gently than it begins, with the younger brother finally taking himself down a peg.
The military seems to be on the channel's mind. A day later it posted a story about a barracks with one television and a strict list of who controlled it. The short also lands in a busy few days: the coworker who never made a fresh pot of coffee is closing in on half a million views, and the whole channel is drawing more than twice its usual daily views.

What viewers say
There is zero way that kid didn’t actually know what rank he was, if he actually went through bootcamp. Ranks are almost literslly drilled into the core of our minds
@thespartanamongus1121See it on YouTubeIt can work like that. You can enlist then use army resources to get a degree and switch to the officer tract..... doesnt mean it will happen or even that itll happen quickly though
