'It was just a social experiment' passes ten million as 5PM reaches a million subscribers
The skit channel, whose about text calls every story it tells fiction, added about 25,000 subscribers over the week to get there.
Why this story? The channel passed the 1,000,000 subscribers mark.
5PM now has a million subscribers, and a week-old short gave it company at the line. "It was just a social experiment👀", posted on September 30, passed ten million views on the same day the channel reached its round number.
The title borrows one of the internet's most familiar excuses, the line that prank videos reach for once a stunt has gone sideways. On 5PM it lands as part of the joke. The channel's about text says every story it shares is fictional and made purely for entertainment, and it insists that its videos are original ideas reworked into something new, not reused clips.
The newest uploads stay in the same territory of siblings, couples and parents: "Sister really meant it🤣", "His wife left him", and a mother who, in the words of another title, 'was "not" happy💔'. The two shorts posted on milestone day itself were still at the start of their run, with views in the thousands.
The day was a quieter one for 5PM by its own standards. Across the whole week, though, the channel ran ahead of its usual pace, and it is that week of steady arrivals that pushed it past seven figures.
