Christina Lynn Downer's brother spent months asking for information about her disappearance. NBCLA's report follows that search through a devastating update from police and the arrest of two people on suspicion of murder.

Downer, the sister of Saturday Night Live writer Jimmy Fowlie, was reported missing on December 18. Reporter Robert Kovacik revisits Fowlie's public appeals and his later announcement that LAPD had told the family she was no longer alive. The report also shows search operations in Joshua Tree.

One development came on the coast: according to the report, Downer's phone washed up in Santa Monica, providing detectives with a lead. Kovacik also recounts Fowlie's concerns that his sister's phone and social media had been compromised before she disappeared, including suspected unauthorized posts.

Police say Downer's boyfriend was among the two people arrested. Kovacik examines legal documents showing restraining-order requests connecting Downer and the two arrested people, alongside an earlier small-claims filing. The arrests are reported as part of the murder investigation, not as findings of guilt.

The report has drawn about 73,000 views in its first 22 hours, far above NBCLA's usual opening audience for a regular video. Its central thread remains the family's search, from Fowlie's appeals for help to the police investigation that followed.
