An Oman flying ban, Christa Pike and Kemi's 'ideological mess' on Times Radio

Fifteen uploads, many of them from Saturday's shows, carried the channel to about 6.9 million views over seven days, more than any channel of its size in its group.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Times Radio spent its Saturday on two stories from far outside Britain, and they drew more viewers than anything else it posted.

The first came from Jane Mulkerrins' afternoon show. Philip Baum, a visiting professor of aviation security at Coventry University, said the man behind the attempted hijacking of a FlyDubai flight had once been in pilot training with Oman Air, which had identified him as holding radicalised views. A few hours later, on the weekend evening show with Ayesha Hazarika, the former airline pilots' federation director Gideon Ewers explained why every cockpit carries a crash axe at all. The answer is plain: it is there to help people get out after a crash.

The second was Christa Pike. Her execution in Tennessee has been postponed indefinitely, and Niall Stanage, White House columnist for The Hill, told Mulkerrins that whether the state tries again is an open question. This clip is now gathering views slightly faster than the FlyDubai one.

The rest of the week moved between Washington and Westminster: Katy Balls, the paper's Washington editor, on Republican nerves before the midterms, and Fraser Nelson, the longtime former editor of The Spectator, on the Conservatives as an ideological mess and what Kemi Badenoch could do about it.

Views ran a little below the channel's usual pace, and subscribers rose by about ten thousand. Across its group of similarly sized news channels, though, most had a slower week than usual. news.com.au, Arise News and 10 News were all well below their normal level, while CNN 10 and 7 News Spotlight held steady. Over the seven days, Times Radio still gathered more views than any of them.
