Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras earned her pilot's license at 17, correspondent Eliseu Caetano reports in a live broadcast about the Learjet crash in Florida. The Brazilian co-pilot, 20, was among nine people killed aboard the aircraft, according to Brazil's Jovem Pan News.
Reporting from Miami, Caetano identifies Filgueiras as the person who made the final contact with air traffic control. He describes the aircraft's rapid loss of altitude before it struck a road near homes in Greenacres, Palm Beach County. Dashcam footage shows the steep descent and an explosion on impact.
The Learjet 60 had departed Austin, Texas, bound for the Bahamas, the report says. The broadcast places adverse weather, including thunderstorms and towering cumulonimbus clouds, among the conditions investigators will examine. It does not establish what caused the aircraft to descend.
The National Transportation Safety Board, the independent federal accident-investigation agency, and the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates US civil aviation, are investigating, according to the report.
Caetano also addresses online speculation that the crash involved terrorism or a drone attack near Mar-a-Lago. He rejects that interpretation and describes the event as an apparent accident. His assessment is not an investigative finding about the cause.
The broadcast closes with presenter Márcia offering condolences to the victims' families.
