Tom Coolen swaps straight pipe for a Twister sound test
The Duramax exhaust installation ends with alternating before-and-after revs, and viewers don't all hear the same difference.

Twister vs Straight Pipe!
The pipe needs persuading. Tom Coolen brings out an impact wrench and a hammer to remove a straight exhaust section, making room for a Twister resonator whose sound is the question hanging over the job.
His new Short has drawn nearly 200,000 views in seven hours, already well beyond his usual full-day audience for the format. After the stuck-axle extraction featured here earlier, this job offers another dose of stubborn metal, but with a listening test at the end.
Coolen begins by showing the resonator's interior. "It just looks like a straight pipe, but it's not," he says. The customer supplied the parts for the Duramax installation, which involves more than simply slipping a replacement into place: Coolen shapes a custom hanger from U-bolt rod in a vise, then welds it onto the exhaust piping.
The workshop improvisation extends to opening a clamp's packaging with an oxy-acetylene torch. Viewers pick up on the hammer-heavy approach, trading tool jokes alongside their assessments of the sound.
Once the truck is lowered, Coolen switches between recordings of the exhaust before and after the work. Some commenters hear little difference; others describe less rasp or a quieter result. One compares the exercise to listening to guitar-pickup comparison clips. Coolen's alternating revs give everyone the same thing to listen for, without settling the argument for them.
