Tom Coolen brings a longer lever to a stuck axle

A stubborn shop repair calls for a chain, two pry bars and some dry commentary about the limits of brute force.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 393,049 views a day, 6.7 times a normal first day on this channel (58,354).

Stuck axle?Stuck axle?

The axle won't cooperate. An air hammer is already working away when Tom Coolen steps in, but "Stuck axle?" turns into a repair with several obstacles between the mechanics and the part they want loose.

The Short drew roughly 400,000 views in its first day, nearly seven times Tom Coolen's usual start for the format. Unlike his rocket-sled outings, this one stays in the repair shop, where an ordinary job has become an extended negotiation with seized metal.

Tom applies automatic transmission fluid, explaining that vibration can help work it into the assembly. Then the team changes tack: disconnect the lower ball joint so they can swing the assembly outward. Naturally, that connection puts up resistance too.

That's where the chain comes in. Hooked to the frame, it becomes part of a leverage setup involving long pry bars and a block of wood. Tom's explanation is economical: "The only thing better than a long bar is an even longer bar." A coworker's sledgehammer blows help release the joint.

Viewers are picking out the chain arrangement and the back-and-forth between coworkers, with some sharing their own memories of similarly stubborn repairs. Back at the axle, the team adds heat and more hammering. It finally begins to move, but the clip cuts off before a complete extraction.
