How do you learn to make pizza that people will wait for? AJ's answer to Gareth Leonard is refreshingly direct: "So I'm pretty much self-taught, you know, YouTube University."
That exchange gives Gareth's only upload this week a story beyond its extraordinary waiting list. In "This Guy Makes Pizza at Home and has a 3,500 Person Wait List," the work starts with dough preparation, fermentation, sauce and cheese grating in AJ's shared apartment. His girlfriend Jessie helps with the logistics. Later, Gareth and AJ visit Sam the Dough Guy, whose home operation has a teaching purpose: "My whole thing is kind of like teaching people how to do pizza."
The episode has reached roughly 2.2 million views and is comfortably the channel's strongest source of daily viewing. In the comments, the crust is a recurring subject: home bakers compare their struggles to brown the dough before the cheese overcooks, while others debate whether expanding the operation would miss the point of keeping it small. One viewer connects AJ's self-taught approach with their own projects learned through videos.
There is a paid cookware segment within the episode, alongside the kitchen visits and a California burrito break.
Gareth added about 7,000 subscribers over the week, accounting for nearly all his growth over the past month. Daily viewing is also well above its usual level. Among nearby food channels, Sam Jose is having a particularly busy week, while Halle Burns's daily viewing is close to normal.
Away from the apartment kitchen, Gareth's older Dublin solo-eating adventure remains his next most active video, with the day behind Mr. Beef's Chicago counter following it.

That crust though....that's what always makes the pizza for me. Good dough is the most important part.

YouTube university is a real thing I built a shed learning off YouTube. Made a patio area with a smokeless fire pit learned how to BBQ to working on cars lmao it’s the only social media I have 😂
@irvingonzalez4947See it on YouTubeStunning for what he's getting out of a home oven. I like my pies, but the crust never looks that good before the cheese overmelts. And this is on a 4 minute steel bake. Pizza is one of those things where there are so many variables (it's probably over 20), and each can make a big difference. Guy has clearly figured it out.
@UTeewbSee it on YouTubeI had two pizza shops in Pennsylvania years ago. I live in New york now and just started doing pizza out of my home. I was surprised how many people asked me to sell them pizza. The crust he is getting on his pizza is unreal!
@TheGreatAwakeningsSee it on YouTubeAn oven/pizza steel is a complete game changer for home cooking. Great for pizza and a ton of other stuff.
@TomJohn5382See it on YouTubeWhat an incredible day of great food with good people. I need some beer with my slice but it’s all good.
