Video taking off 15x its usual first day

Vashtorr in the title, Mick Gordon in the comments: Boltgun 2's reveal trailer

A week before the retro Warhammer shooter launches, its daemon trailer has viewers talking more about the music than the monster.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 144,103 views a day, 15 times a normal first day on this channel (9,495).

Vashtorr got the billing. The newest Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 trailer is named for him, and it passed 77,000 views in its first nine hours on GameTrailers, a pace that leaves the channel's usual first day far behind. A World of Warcraft: Forever class overview posted the same day drew only a fraction of that.

Boltgun 2 follows Auroch Digital's 2023 original, which put a Space Marine into the chunky, fast world of 1990s shooters. The description calls the sequel a retro first-person action shooter and introduces Vashtorr as an iconic, demonic demigod joining the fight. Players can take him on from October 14, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Open the comments, though, and the demigod barely gets a mention. Nearly all of the most liked ones are about one name: Mick Gordon, who viewers say made the music. Gordon is best known for his scores to Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, and his crushing, industrial metal sound shaped how a modern shooter is expected to sound. Several commenters say they recognized the riffs before they saw his name. Others greet him as if he had been away, and one jokes that this is really a Mick Gordon reveal with a trailer attached. The comments came in more than ten times faster than on a usual first day.

The rest of the thread belongs to Warhammer fans. One viewer thinks Vashtorr's laugh sounds like General Grievous, another wants to know whether a figure in the trailer is a Battle Sister, and someone is already asking for a physical collector's edition.
