Tiny cartridges, substantial adventures on Game Sack
Joe Redifer's small-memory tour fits Mario, Metroid and Zelda into a surprisingly compact history of console games.

- 0:46Pitfall! occupies 4KB, while Dragster and Combat each fit into 2KB on Atari 2600.
- 3:31The NES section ranges from 128KB adventures to Super Mario Bros. at 40KB and smaller arcade conversions.
- 6:21Eight bits equal one byte, so eight megabits equal one megabyte.
- 22:34Super Mario World and Super Castlevania IV illustrate the smaller end of the Super Nintendo cartridge library.
- 35:44Later systems bring Nintendo 64 racers, Brain Age and the Vita's Retro City Rampage DX into the comparison.
Game Sack posted nothing new this week, but Joe Redifer has left plenty to unpack in "The MOST IMPRESSIVE small memory CARTRIDGE GAMES". His tour of what programmers squeezed into limited cartridge space has reached roughly 181,000 views and is the channel's busiest video right now.
The familiar names make the constraints tangible. Super Mario Bros. fits into 40KB; the NES versions of Castlevania, Contra, Metroid and The Legend of Zelda each occupy 128KB. Joe moves between gameplay, memory sizes and assessments of the games themselves, making this more than a parade of small files. There is also a useful translation for anyone whose eyes glaze over at the abbreviations: eight bits equal one byte.
The journey stretches from Atari to PlayStation Vita, with handheld detours and a letter from SNK's "The Game Lord" along the way. By the Super Nintendo section, Super Mario World supplies another familiar example of how much adventure a modest cartridge could hold.
Its companion episode, "The BIGGEST, Most MEMORY INTENSIVE Cartridge Games on Each Console", has the next-strongest daily momentum, followed by "EVERY Capcom CPS1 Game". Hardware constraints have become a particularly visible thread through the channel's active catalogue.
Subscribers held steady, while today's viewing is less than half the usual daily level. Across the full week, Game Sack's viewing was close to HappyConsoleGamer's; ENDYMIONtv had a much larger week. For Joe, the current draw is the smaller end of the cartridge shelf, not another new upload.
