A fake Facebook account costs a Cherokee County deputy his badge
An inquiry tied the corporal to an account used to harass a woman he had once arrested, and FOX 5 Atlanta's comment section is asking whether a firing is enough.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 102,884 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (4,108).
Cherokee County deputy fired over harassment | FOX 5 News
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has fired one of its corporals. An official inquiry linked him to a fake Facebook account that had been used to harass a woman he had arrested before.
FOX 5 Atlanta's report on the firing went up on Saturday and passed 100,000 views in about a day. A regular news video on this channel usually ends its first day closer to 4,000.
The comments moved even faster. A typical upload here gathers a couple of comments on its first day, and this one drew more than 700. Most of them circle one question: whether losing the job is the end of it. Many viewers want criminal charges. Others want him decertified so he cannot serve in law enforcement again, and a good number expect a civil lawsuit to follow. Several say they have followed the woman's case for a long time. Others are surprised that a case against her is still open. The video's own tags point to an obstruction case that remains active.
It is the second story about Georgia law enforcement in two days to travel far beyond the station's usual audience. The report posted the day before on David Wright, the 24-year-old killed in the DeKalb County Jail after his bond was paid, has also passed 100,000 views, as we reported here.

A short local report drew a first day many times the size of this channel's usual, and a comment section hundreds of times busier.
