Greige, the Cybertruck and Debbie Millman ask why the world looks drab
After Bill Gates's A.I. warnings, Ezra Klein turned to beauty and a brand designer who once remade the Burger King logo.

Why the Modern World Looks So Drab | The Ezra Klein Show
Ezra Klein followed a week of artificial intelligence with a week of aesthetics. His guest was Debbie Millman, who teaches at the School of Visual Arts, hosts the long-running podcast Design Matters and, as a brand designer, reworked logos for Burger King, 7 Up and Häagen-Dazs. "Why the Modern World Looks So Drab" wanders from greige living rooms and look-alike cars to old Dr. Zizmor subway ads. Klein's description sets it against the right's own theory of beauty: Trump's gilded Oval Office and an order favoring classical styles for some federal buildings. He asks whether the left has an answer at all.
The episode opened with more than 80,000 views on its first day and is still picking up more than any other new full upload. Two clips cut from it, one calling the Cybertruck a Rorschach test and one on how greige swallowed everything, went up beside it.
The Gates conversation from last week, as we reported here, has not let go. The full episode, where Gates says A.I. "makes nuclear weapons look like nothing," has passed 1.3 million views and still draws the biggest daily crowd. A shorter cut on jobs is the most watched of the new uploads, and its comments read like a staffing meeting: a software engineer who says he had to change careers, a nurse who wishes Klein had pushed Gates harder on hospital work, and a worry that entry-level jobs disappear first.
The whole channel is running a little below its usual daily pace, and still added about 7,000 subscribers. Among political talk channels near its size, only Neil Sean's daily headlines and Harry Sisson gained more views over the seven days.

AI doesn’t need to be better at a job to replace human workers. It just needs to be “good enough”, but really cheap.
@SikentonSee it on YouTubeThe biggest problem, I think, is that a lot of entry level jobs people need to get started in their career are the ones that will get eliminated first. I got my career started doing basic admin work, but if AI can do all of that, how will people work their way up to higher paying, more sophisticated jobs?
