John Mearsheimer on whether Trump has weakened the US, for Judge Napolitano

The University of Chicago realist led a crowded Tuesday on Judging Freedom, ahead of Chas Freeman, Karen Kwiatkowski and Aaron Maté.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 150,155 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (10,726).

Prof. John Mearsheimer : Has Trump Weakened the US?Prof. John Mearsheimer : Has Trump Weakened the US?

John Mearsheimer, the University of Chicago political scientist known for his realist reading of great-power politics, has been a familiar face across from Judge Andrew Napolitano. His latest visit comes with a blunt question for a title: "Has Trump Weakened the US?" Within 15 hours it had close to 117,000 views. A new interview here usually gathers about a tenth of that in a whole day.

The description is simply the title, so the conversation itself has to carry it. The comment section shows where it went. Viewers there are talking about Iran and the risk of a wider war, about whether China is really the threat Washington says it is, and about the influence of lobbyists on Congress. Several write in to push back on a point the professor makes about Iran. Comments arrived quickly, already about three times what a usual full first day brings.

The interview did not stand alone. Napolitano posted his usual run of guests the same day, and three others also opened well above the norm. Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski asked whether US bombers are really leaving Britain. Former ambassador Chas Freeman took on "Is Trump Planning War in November?" Journalist Aaron Maté wondered whether it matters who is president at all. Mearsheimer drew roughly twice the crowd of any of them.

That busy slate lifted the whole channel. Among political talk channels near its size, most are moving at their ordinary pace, while Judging Freedom's daily views are running about half again above usual.
