"How Dangerous is Trump?": Jeffrey Sachs leads Judge Napolitano's Monday

The Columbia economist's interview was one of three from the same day to run far ahead of the channel's usual start, with Alastair Crooke's almost level with it.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 169,727 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (10,972).

Prof. Jeffrey Sachs : How Dangerous is Trump?Prof. Jeffrey Sachs : How Dangerous is Trump?

"Prof. Jeffrey Sachs : How Dangerous is Trump?" has the plain format Judge Andrew Napolitano uses for nearly every interview on Judging Freedom: a guest's name, a colon, one question. On Monday it was the one that traveled farthest. Thirteen hours after it went up, it had been watched about 120,000 times. A new interview here usually ends its whole first day near 11,000.

Sachs is the Columbia University economist known for his work on poverty and development. He advised governments in Bolivia, Poland and Russia during their economic overhauls, and he has served as an adviser to several UN secretaries-general. The video's description repeats its title and nothing more, so the question carries the whole pitch.

The comments came in nearly three times faster than on the channel's usual first day. Viewers write from Britain and from Iran, many thank the judge for the booking, and others pick up two threads: whether a new agreement can mean anything once earlier ones have been set aside, and the role of oil, Venezuela included.

It was not a lone hit. Alastair Crooke's conversation from the same day, on Trump, Netanyahu and the prospect of more war, ran almost level with Sachs. Larry Johnson's interview on Netanyahu was not far behind, and Ian Proud, telling the story of his arrest at Heathrow, also drew several times the usual first-day audience. The questions on the schedule keep coming in the same shape: John Mearsheimer is asked whether Trump has weakened the US, and Aaron Maté whether it matters who is president.
