"Biggest Box Office Bomb" - Tom Cruise's $160M ‘Digger’ Made Just $8M
Valuetainment Short Clips usually deals in business lessons and boardroom stories, cut from Patrick Bet-David's longer shows. Its newest hit is about an expensive project that went wrong in Hollywood. ""Biggest Box Office Bomb" - Tom Cruise's $160M ‘Digger’ Made Just $8M" takes on Digger, the Warner Bros. film that pairs Cruise with director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The description lays out the case: a budget reported at $160 million, a domestic opening of $8 million, and losses it projects somewhere between $150 and $200 million.
It is the second Hollywood story in a row for the channel, a day after Bob Chapek talked about Disney, as we reported here. This one traveled further. The clip came close to 100,000 views in a little over a day, on a channel where a new video usually ends its first day in the low thousands, and its comment section filled about sixteen times faster than usual.
A good part of that talk is about casting. The most popular film comment wishes Cruise had gone back to Les Grossman, the foul-mouthed studio boss he played under heavy makeup in Ben Stiller's 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder. Another viewer makes a longer case for why Cruise would want Iñárritu at all, pointing to Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar for The Revenant and Michael Keaton's turn in Birdman. Some say the trailer told them everything they needed to know. A few push back that the film is good and that people are judging it unseen, one wishes the clip had come with a spoiler warning, and another traces one of its twists to the 1987 horror film Anguish.
The rest of the channel's days stayed in its usual lane: a string of short cuts from a conversation with Jacob Coxon, who left OpenAI, about AI risk and China, and Denzel Washington's advice on success to Fordham students. The Denzel clip did well by the channel's standards. The Cruise clip did far better.
