Stephen A. Smith is 'SO DISGUSTED' with the Yankees, one loss from elimination

Chris Canty and Jeff Saturday joined him on First Take, while a ball off the roof in Milwaukee gave the Brewers a Game 1 win.

What does ESPN's baseball channel look like in the first week of October? Mostly like the Brewers, and then, suddenly, like Stephen A. Smith.

Fifteen uploads went up, and the early ones followed Milwaukee through its NLDS with the Padres. Game 1 ended on a strange call: with the Padres down a run in the ninth, Ty France drove a ball that hit the roof at American Family Field and came down into Jackson Chourio's glove, and after review it stood as an out. A day later Chourio was the hero the ordinary way, with a two-run walk-off single after Mason Miller walked three to load the bases. A Braves clip, Michael Harris II squaring the series with the Dodgers, rounded out the playoff highlights.

Then came First Take. Stephen A., with Chris Canty, Jeff Saturday and host Shae Cornette, unloaded on a Yankees team one game from elimination against Tampa Bay, and that segment drew more views in half a day than any of the Brewers clips have in three. A short cut of the same rant followed close behind. The comments read like a Yankees support group: a long thread on fundamentals and Aaron Boone, a Rays fan or two enjoying it, and a few viewers who would rather Stephen A. stuck to basketball.

The channel overall ran a little under its usual pace, adding close to three million views and no new subscribers, which puts it mid-table among American sports channels. Fuzzy and D1 Kuumo are the busy ones; Malika Andrews' channel is having a far quieter stretch.
