Jason Sudeikis on why he never broke character at SNL, told on All The Smoke

Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson got the Ted Lasso star talking about live comedy, and a day later a second clip from the same chat went up, this one about Lasso's surprising early fans.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 55,625 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (3,551).

Jason Sudeikis Never Broke Character On SNL?! 🤣Jason Sudeikis Never Broke Character On SNL?! 🤣

"Jason Sudeikis Never Broke Character On SNL?!" is a short cut from All The Smoke, the show hosted by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. Sudeikis explains why he made a point of staying in character during his years on Saturday Night Live, and what that commitment meant to him as a live performer. Anyone who has watched the show knows how rare that is: whole sketches have become famous because someone onstage could not keep a straight face.

Sudeikis came to the show by way of improv, including Second City, joined SNL as a writer in 2003 and spent most of the following decade in the cast. Those roots show in his answer, which treats the character as the job.

On DraftKings, a channel built around the Dan Le Batard Show and daily sports talk, the clip drew around 55,000 views in its first day. A typical short there opens with a few thousand. The comment section stayed quiet, but the views lifted the whole channel, which had nearly three times its usual daily traffic.

A day later the channel posted a second clip from the same conversation, in which Sudeikis recalls hearing Tony Parker and Thierry Henry tell him they were fans of Ted Lasso before the show even existed. That clip is off to a much slower start.
