CBS TEXAS brings together footage of people running through Deep Ellum and accounts from those nearby when gunfire broke out on Halloween night. Its report says three separate shootings within an hour left four people dead and at least 15 others injured.
Reporter Briseida Holguin speaks with Thomas Jennings, manager of St. Pete's Dancing Marlin, who describes hearing a quick burst that sounded like fireworks hitting the wall. He was cleaning barware when he looked up and saw people ducking and running. He pulled a woman inside to safety.
"I bring her in, and I lock the door back," Jennings says.
The report maps the shooting locations along Elm, Main and Commerce streets. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux says arrests have been made and asks anyone with footage to share it, including recordings that might initially seem unhelpful.
"Look, we need all the videos you have. If you have anything, even if you don't think it may show anything, you never know," he says.
The report drew more than half a million views in less than a day, an unusually large audience for a regular CBS TEXAS upload. The station has also published a shorter report on police seeking suspects and follow-up coverage remembering those killed.
For residents seeking a place to speak about what happened, the broadcast announces Deep Ellum Foundation community listening sessions at the Deep Ellum Community Center on Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.
A historic neighborhood near downtown Dallas, known for its arts venues, restaurants, bars and entertainment businesses.
