Jury selection to begin in murder trial against rapper Yella Beezy
Prosecutors accuse Dallas rapper Yella Beezy of hiring a man to kill fellow rapper Mo3. Yella Beezy, whose legal name is Markies Conway, has pleaded not guilty, a central point in CBS Texas's report on the start of jury selection.
Assignment editor Deneeka Hill explains that Mo3, whose legal name was Melvin Noble, was shot and killed on Interstate 35E in 2020. Kewon White was convicted of capital murder in September and sentenced to life without parole. The case against Conway concerns prosecutors' allegation that he hired White to carry out the killing.
Hill also outlines why Conway's trial had been delayed: his defense requested more time because of an expert witness's scheduling conflict and while awaiting transcripts from White's trial.
The brief report drew more than 33,000 views before its first full day was over, an unusually large audience for a CBS Texas Short. In a subsequent update, the station said opening statements were expected Tuesday, moving its coverage from jury selection toward the presentation of the case.
American rapper from Dallas, Texas, whose legal name is Markies Deandre Conway. His singles "That's On Me" and "Bacc At It Again" reached the Billboard Hot 100.
