Flooded roads leave Pagosa Springs residents stranded as rain continues
CBS Colorado's follow-up report details disrupted travel and the closure of the San Juan River Bridge on Highway 160.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 47,556 views a day, 73 times a normal first day on this channel (650).
Disaster response continues as some residents in southwest Colorado remain stranded due to flooding
"We're up on a hill and we still flooded," Pagosa Springs resident Jenny Heckmann tells CBS Colorado. With rain still falling, she describes digging trenches as residents face washed-out roads and disrupted access to essential resources.
Reporter Jasmine Arenas's latest flood coverage focuses on what happens when the roads out are no longer usable. Visitor Sydney Freeman says she could not reach the airport in either direction and had to reschedule flights. Arenas reports that the San Juan River Bridge on Highway 160 is closed because of concerns over rising river levels.
The report follows the station's earlier coverage of rescues and damage in southwestern Colorado, as we reported here. Governor Jared Polis has issued a disaster emergency declaration, and the new report also shows a National Guard Black Hawk rescuing a couple and their pets from an overturned RV in Archuleta County.
The upload drew about 29,000 views in ten hours, already far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for comparable reports. At the center of this follow-up is Heckmann's account of an emergency still unfolding: "It's still happening. It's been raining all day."
