Family remembers mother and daughter after suspected Bella Coola bear attack
CBC British Columbia's report pairs the family's memories with a warning to stay away from the Snooka West trail area.

Mother and daughter dead in suspected grizzly bear attack near Bella Coola
Jennifer Balcarras and her daughter Sailor Reed were close companions on the trail. "They were two peas in a pod. When Jenny hiked, she was right there beside her," Jennifer's brother Josh Balcarras tells CBC reporter Michelle Ghoussoub.
The pair went for a walk near their home in Bella Coola, on British Columbia's Central Coast, and never returned. CBC reports their deaths in a suspected grizzly bear attack. Jennifer's brother Matthew says authorities have confirmed her remains and that the family does not believe Sailor survived either.
Conservation Officer Service Inspector Jeff Tyre says there was evidence suggesting a bear may have been involved. He urges the public to avoid the Snooka West trail area until further notice because of the danger. The report ends with efforts to trap the bear or bears still underway.
The short report drew more than 200,000 views before its first day was over, far above CBC British Columbia's usual audience for a Short.
Alongside the family's account, Nicholas Scapillati of the Grizzly Bear Foundation advises hikers to travel in groups, keep dogs leashed and carry bear spray as bears prepare for hibernation. Matthew's remembrance brings the report back to the people lost: "Both Jenny and Sailor were vibrant and full of life."
