9News Perth's whole Saturday bulletin travels farther than the Newcastle crash clips
The Western Australian newscast, posted in full with only a date in its title, led a day when two updates on a crash in Newcastle also ran well ahead of a usual start.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 307,262 views a day, 20 times a normal first day on this channel (15,366).
9News Perth | Saturday 3 October | Full Bulletin
"9News Perth | Saturday 3 October | Full Bulletin" gives nothing away in its title: no headline story, no face, just the city and the date. Fifteen hours after it went up, Perth's Saturday news had passed 244,000 views. A new upload on 9 News Australia usually ends its whole first day at around fifteen thousand.
It was not the only upload drawing a crowd. Two clips about a crash in Newcastle also ran far ahead of the channel's usual first day. One was a news package reporting that the driver has been charged, paired with teenagers charged over a series of armed robberies. The other was an update from a NSW Police Assistant Commissioner. Both went up later and are still catching up, but the Perth bulletin is on track for the biggest first day of the three.
Full bulletins have a habit of doing this here. As we reported here, a complete 9News Melbourne bulletin drew a crowd of its own a few days ago, date and all. This time it is the far west, a city whose news rarely leads a national channel's day.
The rest of the weekend's uploads point east, to the Grand Final between the Roosters and the Knights: a countdown, the two clubs' mayors getting ready, the teams themselves. Those clips are still small. Across the channel, the day as a whole ran a little quieter than usual, so most of the attention landed on a handful of videos. Perhaps viewers in Perth, or those who left it, simply wanted the whole program rather than the pieces.

The numbers
The bulletin's first hours stand well apart from what a new upload on this channel usually does, even on a day when the channel as a whole ran a little below its normal pace.
