'It keeps getting worse': Vanwives trade the swim pond for a $48,000 repair
Three pond episodes from September have each passed half a million views, and the newest upload hints at an abandoned home and a new project.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 354,296 views a day, 6.3 times a normal day (55,965).
Most homesteading channels close to Vanwives in size are running below their usual pace right now. Noah Kane, Farmhouse on Boone and aminata garden are all well short of their normal days, and Andrew Millison is about level. Vanwives is going the other way, with daily views more than six times its norm.
The newest upload has a warning in its title: "It Keeps Getting Worse... A $48,000 Dollar Repair." It went up on Sunday, the channel's regular slot, and two days later it was close to 400,000 views. The title does not say what broke. Its tags point somewhere new, though: an abandoned home, cordwood construction, a fixer-upper and the words "project announcement."
That would be a change of scene after a September given almost entirely to water. The channel spent weeks digging, lining and filling a natural swim pond on its land. The descriptions credit Derek of Quiet Nature, a pond and landscaping company, for the know-how. Episode six, where the pond finally held water, episode seven, with the cleaning and the first swim, and the finale, "Finishing Our Dream Swim POND!", have each passed half a million views. The creators' own tags put the pond at half a million gallons. A short explainer posted between them, "the secret to a swim pond," stayed much smaller.
It is a long way from where the channel started. The description still counts more than three years of van life with two dogs, and then off-grid living at a cabin in the woods. The about text sums up the whole run in one line: trying things they once thought they couldn't do.

A natural swim pond stays clear without chlorine. What does the cleaning?
Natural swimming ponds use a planted area and gravel or other filter material, where plants and microorganisms take up the nutrients that would otherwise feed algae.
