Scott Fish takes his seven-day fishing trips from Tokyo's volcanic islands to Seoul
The description promises that finding fish was not the hardest part of the Korean week, and the channel around it is drawing about six times its usual daily views.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 101,537 views a day, 6.4 times a normal day (15,907).
Seoul is the latest stop. "7 Days Fishing South Korea's Most Urban City | But... Where?" went up on October 3, and the channel around it is now drawing more than 100,000 views a day, roughly six times its usual pace. The episode itself passed 90,000 views in its first three days.
The idea behind the series is simple: one place, one week, a rod, and whatever lives in the water. Each episode lands on its own month. June was Athens, where the description says the sea once provided everything and the tags go looking for lavraki, the Greek name for sea bass. July was San Diego Bay, billed as America's military city. August brought a stretch of Alaskan beach, where a drone carried bait out past the surf for halibut.
September went furthest. "7 Days Fishing Tokyo's Forgotten Island" left the skyline behind for the volcanic Izu Islands, Aogashima and Hachijojima among them, to try for yellowfin tuna from shore. At more than 300,000 views, it is well ahead of every other recent episode.
The Korean week asks a question in its title and saves the answer for the video. The description admits that fish were not the main problem in the urban jungle, without saying what was. Perhaps some of the people pressing play for Seoul are the same ones who followed the trip south of Tokyo a month earlier?
