Moose on a Newfoundland mountaintop, the Atlantic below, for Canada in the Rough

Season 12, Episode 08 follows Keith high above the coast after late-season rutting bulls, and a short of a bull 'in a trance' went up the same day.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

"Coastal GIANT (Moose Hunting The Coast of Newfoundland)" is episode eight of the twelfth season of Canada in the Rough, the Beasley Brothers' coast-to-coast hunting show. In this one Keith climbs into the mountains of Newfoundland, with the ocean far below on the horizon, looking for big bulls late in the rut. It passed 30,000 views in three days, the most of any upload in a seven-video week.

The comment section reads like a visit home. Several viewers stop to admire the scenery, and one watcher from the island is simply glad to see friends hunting back in NL. Others want the practical answers: why no calling, and how did they get the moose out of a spot that remote? Some argue the island's hardest-to-reach corners should be left to the moose. Newfoundlanders also keep correcting the pronunciation of their province's name, and they don't all agree on the right one.

The short that went up the same day, "This Bull Was In A Trance," is now the faster of the two, picking up views at more than twice the episode's daily pace. Around them sat a bowhunt for muskox in Nunavut, pintails and snow geese on the prairies, and a first aid lesson on splints with John Ward of Pac Kit Medical.

All together, the channel ran about half again above its usual daily views. Most outdoors channels near its size ran well below theirs, with Farmhouse on Boone and Anne of All Trades at less than half of their usual pace.
