Tyler Vitelli's bad-internet short has viewers blaming their own wifi
Commenters admit they paused and unpaused before they caught on, and one says the progress bar gave the joke away.
Why this story? The video drew 9,670 comments in its first day, 8 times a normal first day on this channel (1,206).
That one friend with bad Internet.. #relatablestories #comedy #funnymemes
Tyler Vitelli made a short about "That one friend with bad Internet," and a lot of his viewers spent the first few seconds sure that friend was them. By the comments' account, the clip plays its stalling connection so convincingly that people took the lag for their own.
That confession has become the conversation. The most liked comments are one variation after another: viewers who thought their screen had frozen, viewers who started tapping pause and play to fix it, viewers who wondered which of their friends the video meant and then suspected it might be them. One commenter with famously bad wifi says they were not even surprised. Another trusts the red line along the bottom, the playback bar that kept moving while the picture seemed stuck.
It shows in the volume. The comments arrived about eight times faster than on one of his usual Shorts, while the views, close to three million on the first day, were ordinary for him.
The short sits in a busy run. Since then he has posted a Hershey's Kiss trick, a candle that cannot be smelled, scary sounds played while running and a jab at vegans, all built the same way: a meme with a short story inside it. A few viewers tease him that this one is the cleverest thing he has pulled off.
