Eva Marie Saint, 1924-2026: Turner Classic Movies says goodbye
The channel's short tribute to the On the Waterfront Oscar winner passed 50,000 views in its first day, in a week that also brought young Stanley Kubrick and Rebecca Hall.

Eva Marie Saint 1924 - 2026
Eva Marie Saint, one of the last stars of Hollywood's Golden Age, has died, and Turner Classic Movies marked it with a brief tribute titled simply with her years, 1924 to 2026. The description calls her a dear friend of the channel and thanks her for the time she spent with TCM over the years.
Her screen career began in remarkable style: she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her first feature, On the Waterfront, opposite Marlon Brando, and a few years later she shared a train compartment, and a crop-dusting chase, with Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest. Those two films are the ones viewers return to most in the comments, many of them planning to watch one again, and several remember her conversations with the late Robert Osborne on the network. The tribute gathered close to 47,000 views in its first 24 hours, far beyond anything else the channel posted in the week.
The other two uploads were quieter and longer. Season seven of The Plot Thickens, TCM's documentary podcast, follows a young Stanley Kubrick through Day of the Fight, Fear and Desire and Killer's Kiss, with his family paying the bills and Kubrick playing chess for quarters between projects. Ben Mankiewicz also sat down with Rebecca Hall, TCM's guest director at Telluride, to talk about Passing, her directing debut with Tessa Thompson, and the classics she grew up on. From the archive, a 1952 Ivanhoe clip, with Robert Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Fontaine, keeps drawing a steady audience.
The channel ran ahead of its usual pace and added about a thousand subscribers. Among similar TV channels, only Law & Order and ABC Australia gathered more views over the week, while RedGreenTV was the one running furthest above its own normal.
