What does a channel built as a time machine post in early October? A whole night of 1991 television, cut in two. AFV Classics put up Season 2, Episode 18 of America's Funniest Home Videos, first broadcast on February 17, 1991, with Bob Saget at the host's desk. Part 1 arrived on October 5, and Part 2, barely a day old, is now gathering views faster than anything else on the channel.
Around the episode came a steady run of short clips, fifteen uploads in all. The most watched of them is a cat whose title can only ask "How does he even do that?!" The others read like an old Sunday-night lineup: a kid who insists "I got this", a bowling attempt the title says is not for everyone, workers it advises you never to hire, and a DIY job that explains why some people call a professional. A clip billed as a kid with "a future in the Government" also started quickly. Under the cat clip, the one comment so far is a viewer simply remembering how much they loved the show.
Views ran below the channel's usual pace, with a little under half a million over the week, and subscribers rose by about a thousand to 442,000. Among the TV channels around its size, RedGreenTV and Turner Classic Movies are the ones running ahead of their normal pace, while AFV Classics sits near the quieter end of the group. For this archive, though, the full Saget episodes are the reason to visit, and the second half of February 1991 is the one people are pressing play on.
