Ukrainian strikes have hit five Russian oil refineries with a combined capacity to process roughly a fifth of the country's crude oil, according to The Sun's Frontline report. Defence editor Jerome Starkey places the attacks alongside reported Russian aircraft losses in a review that extends beyond the refinery fire at Ryazan covered previously.
The facilities he identifies are in Afipsky, Ryazan, Yaroslavl, Kstovo and Ufa. The capacity estimate describes the plants' combined potential output, not how much refining capacity the attacks have actually put out of operation.
Starkey also cites British defence intelligence findings that Russia lost multiple military aircraft in October, including Su-34 strike fighters and an Su-57 stealth jet. The programme then turns to Ukraine's use of ground assault robots against Russian positions near Lyman.
The damage inside Ukraine remains central to the report. Starkey describes Russian glide-bomb and missile attacks, an aid centre hit in Zaporizhzhia and damage to Kyiv's energy infrastructure as winter approaches. He explains that glide bombs are conventional bombs fitted with guidance systems, allowing them to be directed towards targets.
The diplomatic section examines Donald Trump's meeting with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev and a proposed European security framework. It closes with Starkey's assessment that a plan to import Russian diesel into the United States has not succeeded: he describes tankers changing course or cargoes remaining unsold, alongside Democratic warnings about congressional sanctions.
The episode drew roughly 195,000 views since yesterday, making it The Sun's most-watched new upload over that period.
