'Goonda chivic': The Daily Downshift's stolen-car fiction passes a million

A short labeled fiction from its very title became the car channel's biggest new upload of the week, and its comment section turned a Honda Civic into a catchphrase.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 878,408 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (56,731).

What is a "Goonda chivic"? Under The Daily Downshift's newest short, it is just about the only thing anyone wants to talk about. The video is called "Got Scammed With Stolen Car😭 Fiction." Judging by the replies, the car at the center of it is a Honda Civic, though hardly anyone under the video calls it that. Viewers have renamed it, and one even jokes that the comments are now almost entirely made of that one phrase. It is a fitting nickname for a car-theft tale: goonda is the Hindi and Urdu word for a thug.

The short passed a million views in a little over a day. A new short here usually finishes its first day somewhere near 57,000. Likes came in about thirteen times faster than usual, and comments more than three times faster, which on a channel this size still means only a few dozen replies. One viewer insists the story is real, despite the word the creator put in the title.

It follows a busy run of quick car gags. The rainy Miata short, as we reported here, is now past 800,000 views, and "DON'T sleep in the CYBERTRUCK" and "Can Cybercab Swim? 🌊" went up the same day. A channel that already draws more than a million views on a normal day still found room for a stolen Civic to stand out.
