Ramayana: Rise of a Legend - Epic Saga Vignette - Only In Cinemas November 5
Ranbir Kapoor remembers being "totally bedazzled" when producer Namit Malhotra took him through his vision for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend. In a new promotional featurette, the people making that vision explain what sits behind the fantasy landscapes and massed armies.
The short film, posted by Sony Pictures Releasing UK, moves between Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and Malhotra, with glimpses of sets, action sequences and Hans Zimmer in the studio. Malhotra says more than 10,000 people worldwide are working on the production. He traces his own journey from starting a company in a garage to taking on this adaptation of the ancient epic.
Tiwari's explanation of its appeal is less about scale. He points to family, underdogs and romance as the themes that audiences around the world can recognise. Kapoor plays Ram in a cast that also includes Yash and Sai Pallavi.
The featurette has drawn far more views than the channel's usual short upload. It is also part of a wider run of Ramayana material: a separate feature on Zimmer and A.R. Rahman's music, plus footage from the cast's London visit, have each had unusually strong starts. The production featurette has the most views of those uploads.
Music gets a brief passage here, with Zimmer and Rahman's shared credit appearing between the filmmakers' accounts and the closing action montage. The companion video, "Ramayana: Rise of a Legend - The Sound of Ramayana - Only In Cinemas November 5", gives that collaboration its own spotlight.
