"We're Making the Game Smaller": Rare puts Sea of Thieves on a diet

Production Director Drew's developer update also covers brigantines in Last Ship Standing and fairer bundle prices in the Pirate Emporium.

Why this story? The whole channel is running at 128,412 views a day, 12 times a normal day (10,524).

Rare had news for anyone whose console is short on space. Its developer update for October 1 is titled "We're Making the Game Smaller | Sea of Thieves Developer Update: October 1st 2026," and it has passed 100,000 views. That makes it the clear leader on the official channel, whose daily views jumped to roughly a dozen times their usual level. Most of the past week's traffic arrived in that one day.

The description opens with a teasing question: ever wish Sea of Thieves was a bit smaller? Production Director Drew has the answer. A companion short posted the same day says the trim could cut the file size by up to half. It also comes with a catch: players will need one full, though smaller, download when it arrives.

The rest of the update is the kind of detail regular crews look for. It shares the results of the Big Ship, Little Ship experiment and testing for brigantines in Last Ship Standing. It also covers shanties coming to the Pirate Emporium, bundle prices that adjust to what a player already owns, and a check on the game's health.

Among the bigger publisher channels nearby, XBOX ON is running at its normal pace, Forza a little above it and Bungie a little below. For the moment, Sea of Thieves is drawing slightly more views a day than XBOX ON.

This is the channel's second round of housekeeping news in a month. Its September 14 news episode promised a way to save outfits, hundreds of them.
