Election night brought PBS NewsHour an unusually large audience for a long broadcast. Its live midterm special passed a quarter-million views in its first seven hours, a much faster start than the channel typically sees for its extended coverage.
Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett led the special, with reporters, analysts and campaign strategists joining the coverage. The stakes extended from control of Congress to governors' offices and state and local government.
The results also supplied a series of standalone uploads. PBS posted Jon Ossoff's victory speech after the Democratic senator won reelection in Georgia, defeating Republican Mike Collins. Its description notes why that hold mattered: Ossoff was the only Senate Democrat seeking reelection in a state Donald Trump carried in 2024.
Separate videos carried remarks from Keisha Lance Bottoms after her Georgia governor's victory and Republican Byron Donalds after his win for governor in Florida, giving readers shorter routes into individual results alongside the election-night special.
