Back to school, back home: Out of Character #182 lands after London
Hamzah and Martin trade their travel episodes for an age-regressing chat about staying up late, and viewers notice they dressed up for it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Back To School - Out of Character #182
After two episodes filmed on the road, "The London Look" (edited, the description admits, at the Canadian Embassy) and "Still Not Home", Out of Character came back with "Back To School - Out of Character #182". The description sums it up as some good old-fashioned age regressing, and Hamzah and Martin, the Toronto pair behind the podcast, spend it on school days and the habits that never left.
It was the week's only upload, and it did its job: about 90,000 views on its first day and well past 160,000 since. The comments read like a homeroom. One stretch about staying up late struck a chord, with viewers explaining that the night is the only time that feels like theirs. Others point at the moment the hosts realize how long they have been talking, joke about a bio quiz abandoned for the episode, and argue with Hamzah's view that the St. Louis Arch outdoes the Eiffel Tower. A Gilmore Girls audio reenactment and a Bladee bit get their own fans, and several viewers note the hosts are unusually well dressed, perhaps a souvenir of fashion week.
The channel as a whole moved a little slower than usual, with around 2,000 new subscribers on the week. Among the podcast channels near its size, the big weeks belonged to Pitch Side and On with Kara Swisher, while HAHA Podcast and the Westen Champlin Podcast ran quieter, much like Out of Character. The London episodes are still picking up viewers, but the new one is doing nearly all the work.
