PlayStation's 2028 disc cutoff sends Mystic Ryan on a shopping spree

Episode 18 of his Game Collecting series is a pile of cheap PS5 discs, plus a Switch 2 game and a PS3 one that slipped in.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Discs are his therapy. In Mystic's world, PlayStation is ending discs in January 2028, and Ryan, the self-described talker who built his channel on covering the PlayStation ecosystem, has answered the only way a collector can: by buying more of them while they are cheap. "I'm Buying Physical PS5 Games To Take The Pain Away" is the eighteenth Game Collecting episode, and the description admits the habit has a cost, one that runs through the whole video. A Switch 2 game and a PS3 game sneaked in too, "because of course there is."

It is the more watched of his two uploads, past 130,000 views in six days. The comments spend a surprising amount of time on his outfit, with viewers comparing it to a Vice City extra and a certain kind of Florida uncle. Others ask whether a trophy hunting channel is on the way, and a few longtime viewers say goodbye in advance to buying discs at all.

The other upload is LTPS #746, his weekly news show, and it had plenty to chew on: Sony's QSSR upscaler for base PS5 consoles, rumors of a new Uncharted and a new Ape Escape, Naughty Dog's two Last of Us projects and a developer saying Sony is hearing the disc feedback. Three days old, it is gathering views at nearly the same daily pace as the collecting video.

Together they pushed the channel well above its usual daily views, though the subscriber count stood still at 826,000. Among the gaming news and commentary channels near his size, Luke Stephens had by far the biggest week, with Spawn Wave and Infinite Bits also running hot, while Mystic sat comfortably in the middle.
