Is the Steam Machine worth it next to a PS5? Kevin Kenson weighs in
His one new video follows a ten-day-old first look at Valve's $1,000-plus cube, and the two together make a small Steam Machine series.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Is Steam Machine worth it if you already have a PS5 or Xbox?
Ten days ago Kevin Kenson finally got his Steam Machine, and he has not stopped thinking about it since. The first video, "I Finally Got a Steam Machine...Was it Worth the Wait?", was his account of a week spent using Valve's little cube as his main gaming system, from beloved indies to demanding big releases, and of whether it earns a price tag the description puts at over $1,000.
His only upload this week picks up the obvious next question: "Is Steam Machine worth it if you already have a PS5 or Xbox?" It is the faster of the two right now, with the older first look still drawing a steady trickle behind it. Further back, a short of a Silent Hill Townfall replica CRT TV keeps a few viewers coming in, a fitting nod to the weird old tech his channel likes to dig into.
The comments under the new video read like a hardware forum. Owners describe streaming games between a Steam Deck and the Machine, others say a couple of cheap Deck docks did the same job for far less, and several ask what happens if they own no console at all. One of the most liked notes is simply a longtime viewer saying it is the first Kevin video they have seen in months.
It was a slower week overall, with daily views running at about half the channel's usual pace and the subscriber count holding at 821,000. Among gaming news and commentary channels of similar size, Luke Stephens and Spawn Wave had the big weeks, while Kevin sat near the quiet end with LegacyKillaHD.
