A wedding goes badly wrong as Min-Maxed opens its second season

Game Master Tater the Bard brought back Bensei, Bloom, Jacques and the Sellsword Arts crew on October 4, and the premiere passed 100,000 views on its first day.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

"The party of deadly nerds" is how Min-Maxed describes itself, and the season two premiere lived up to the billing. "S2 Episode 1: The Wedding" went up on October 4, with Tater the Bard back behind the screen and the familiar table of martial artists and stunt performers around it: instructor Bensei, Bloom, Jacques and the Sellsword Arts players.

Judging by the comments, nobody should have RSVPed. Viewers keep returning to how the ceremony ended. Clark tried to shield his bride from a fireball, and the scene became a double tragedy. Several call the Game Master pure evil for doing it in episode one. Others replay Bensei's increasingly gruesome descriptions of each blow, or a natural 20 rolled at the crucial moment that the table met with silence instead of cheers. Smaller details get plenty of love too: both Davids standing on their chairs, and the Sellsword players jumping up to act out their moves. One small correction comes from the description itself: Bensei plays a Monk, not a Warlock, whatever the on-screen caption says.

The build-up helped. A teaser called "Attend" arrived the day before, and "Clark's Got That Smoke" a few days earlier. Both are past 85,000 views, though the premiere now gathers far more each day than the two of them combined. The whole channel is running well above its usual pace and picked up about 2,000 subscribers.

Among anime, comics and tabletop channels of a similar size, Min-Maxed and Rumpus each added a little over half a million views and are both running hot, while Taylor's Tavern Tales and Daitomodachi are moving slower than usual. Episode two is due in two weeks, since the show now runs every other week.

What viewers say

  • I like how both Davids are standing on their chairs instead of sitting like everyone else. Relatable ✌️😔

  • Only Bensei can express enough anger to make the dice agree to add extra crits.
  • I love how, even for all of his wicked bravado and ego, Jack still manages to make Tater visibly nervous every time he plays. 😂
