Belted or destroyed? A MaxPreps short, and a running argument about a rib protector

The caption only guesses at the result, so the comments turned to the padding, the bench and whether anyone has played a snap yet.

Either they absolutely belted that team or they got destroyed 🫩 #shorts

"Either they absolutely belted that team or they got destroyed" is the whole caption, and it is a guess. The short, credited to another account as most clips on MaxPreps are, never says which way the game went. It went up on the high school sports channel on Sunday and passed 250,000 views in about eleven hours. A new short there usually ends its entire first day at around 16,000.

With no score to argue about, viewers argued about everything else. The longest-running thread is a correction that keeps getting made: the padding in the clip is a rib protector, a few insist on calling it a flak jacket, and one viewer points out that on a quarterback that is about as notable as cleats. Others doubt a single snap has been played yet. Some figure these are the backups, and one names a starting lineup of left bench, right bench and middle bench. The tags file the clip under dancing as well as football. Comments came in about five times faster than on the channel's usual first day.

It was not MaxPreps' only lively Sunday. "Volleyball can get intense 😅" also ran several times past a usual start. By Monday the channel had turned to football royalty, with a Baylor School clip titled "They got Peyton too."
