Video taking off 10x its usual first day

Cody Haddad meets his old Ohio State teammates, insults and all

FOX's short of the former Buckeye's reunion was liked far more than the channel's shorts usually are, and even a Michigan fan admits it made him smile.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 427,339 views a day, 10 times a normal first day on this channel (42,384).

Cody Haddad used to share a locker room with Ohio State. In a short posted on Sunday by CFB on FOX, he comes face to face with his former Buckeye teammates, and the title marks the moment with a single tearful emoji.

The reunion came with a little needling. Several viewers point out that the greetings had some insults mixed in, and the comment section has decided that this is simply how football players say hello. Talk of brotherhood runs all through it, with former players writing that people who never played will not quite get it. One comment hints that his side ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard, and nobody seems to think that spoiled anything. The most charming note comes from a viewer who signs in as a Michigan fan, given what Michigan and Ohio State usually mean to each other.

The clip came close to half a million views in a little over a day. Its audience was more inclined to tap than to type: likes came in about eight times faster than on a usual first day for the channel's shorts, while the number of comments stayed at an ordinary level.

It was a busy weekend for FOX's college football channel. The highlights of No. 12 Texas Tech against Colorado ran almost as fast, No. 6 Indiana against Rutgers did well too, and a short of Deion Sanders speaking bluntly about Colorado's struggles drew a crowd of its own. Even so, on a weekend full of ranked teams, the channel's quickest upload was not a game recap. It was a few seconds of old friends giving each other a hard time.
