'Wait till coach finds out' sends MaxPreps viewers back to their own bus rides
A refereeing short from the same day ran close behind, while the channel's own previews of a Tennessee Game of the Week stayed in the thousands.
MaxPrepsStory of Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 210,192 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (16,174).
Wait till coach finds out 😰 #shorts
Twelve hours after it went up, "Wait till coach finds out 😰" had passed 140,000 views. That is about thirteen times the pace of a usual first day for a MaxPreps short. Like many of the channel's hits, the clip comes from someone else: the description credits a TikTok account, and the hashtags file it under football fails.
The title holds back the details, but the comment section fills them in. Viewers talk about a uniform that did not make the trip, a player who realizes it too late, and a long ride to an away game with nothing to do about it. Some count the minutes he has to sit with that feeling. Others offer fixes, mostly some version of borrowing a jersey from a player on the bench. A few wonder how much it matters if he was not starting anyway.
The best part is the memories. Former players describe their own forgotten jerseys and cleats. One remembers a parent driving the missing uniform across Texas to reach a playoff game just in time. The comments arrived about five times faster than under a usual first-day short.
It was not the channel's only fast start that day. "The best kind of refs 😂🙏," another reposted clip, this one from a young referee's account, was running more than eleven times ahead of usual after seven hours. MaxPreps' own shorts promoting Friday's Baylor against McCallie game, its Game of the Week on the NFHS Network, drew a few thousand views each. The audience came for the moments every high school player recognizes.
