Highlight Reel's try-not-to-flinch short starts eleven times faster than usual
The same day's AI ping pong robots came second, while the channel's overall day stayed close to normal.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 44,655 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (3,937).
Try not to flinch challenge #shorts #impossiblechallenge
Highlight Reel, a clips channel that collects quick sports moments, posted a short on October 1 with a dare in its title: "Try not to flinch challenge." Ten hours later it had passed 28,000 views. That puts it on course for about eleven times what a new short on the channel usually draws in its first day.
The title gives little away beyond the challenge itself and an #impossiblechallenge tag. The comment section is just as brief. Its most liked comment is in Italian and says the person on screen never misses a shot.
The channel posted several other clips that same day. A short about AI robots taking over ping pong also started well, at around 10,000 views. A second ping pong clip and a basketball move stayed in the low thousands.
The new short has not changed the shape of the channel's day. A channel past four billion lifetime views mostly runs on its large library, and its daily views are sitting close to where they usually are. Still, among a run of rallies, putts and pucks, the flinch test is the clip that took off.
