Easton Cowan's top-six case keeps OverDrive's afternoon show ten times past usual
The full October 1 broadcast became TSN's fastest starter of the day, with Pierre LeBrun's Quinn Hughes update not far behind.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 62,070 views a day, 10 times a normal first day on this channel (5,916).
OverDrive Live - October 01
"OverDrive Live - October 01" is the whole afternoon radio show, posted on TSN's channel the way the network posts it most days. The description promises two hours with "Hayes, Noodles and the O-Dog" talking Leafs, sports and whatever else comes up. Six hours after it went up, it had nearly 25,000 views. That pace is about ten times a usual first day for a TSN upload.
The show's own clips show where the conversation went. Bryan Hayes, Jamie McLennan and Jonas Siegel asked whether Easton Cowan could push his way into the Maple Leafs' top six and where Gavin McKenna fits in the lineup. That clip has a healthy audience of its own. Former Seahawks tight end Luke Willson, now a TSN football analyst, came on to talk about the Steelers. Former Oiler Jason Strudwick weighed in on Edmonton's early injuries.
The comments under the full show are almost all hockey. Viewers break down Cowan, McKenna, John Tavares and Auston Matthews line by line. Others remind everyone that only two games have been played and neither one counts. The most liked comment is simply a timestamp telling latecomers where the broadcast actually begins.
The same day, Pierre LeBrun's Insider Trading segment also ran well ahead of a normal start. It covers Quinn Hughes, Simon Edvinsson, coaches in the last year of their contracts and Hockey Canada's search for a general manager for its best-on-best team.
