Video taking off 10x its usual first day

Husam takes on Man City's defenders, and The Football Terrace Xtra finds its crowd

Among a string of City videos, this one drew about ten times a usual first day, and its comment section turned into a history seminar on Cup Winners' Cups and Maine Road crowds.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 41,998 views a day, 10 times a normal first day on this channel (4,002).

Husam EXPOSES Man City & City Fans Who BACK CHEATING!Husam EXPOSES Man City & City Fans Who BACK CHEATING!

Husam is the name in the title, and his target is Manchester City and, as the title puts it, the City supporters who back cheating. On The Football Terrace Xtra, the fan-media channel behind match previews, reaction shows and player debates, that video passed 38,000 views in its first 19 hours. A usual first day here is closer to 4,000.

The channel has given its week almost entirely to City. Titles call for stripped titles, points deductions and a transfer ban, ask whether the owners should be kicked out, and wonder if relegation would even dent the Premier League. Several of them went up on the same day as this one. None came close: the busiest of the rest sits under 9,000 views.

The comments came in about eight times faster than on a usual first day, and they are mostly about the City supporter on the other side of the argument, whom viewers call Steve. Many pick at his history. If City's 1970 Cup Winners' Cup counts as a European trophy, several ask, why not Arsenal's? Others take on his point about Maine Road's record crowd, and the thread soon fills with rival records: the 1923 FA Cup final at Wembley, and the United games played at Maine Road after Old Trafford was bomb-damaged in the Second World War.

It is a fan channel's argument, and the audience showed up to keep it going.
